It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of The Olive Mill in Geneva Illinois. They have the most amazing and affordable balsamic vinegar I’ve had. Love love love it. So when they accidentally shipped me two bottles of chipotle olive oil, I decided I’d give away the second one. After all, I just don’t have room for more than 7 bottles of oil at a time in my 10×10 kitchen.
So, here’s your chance to win a 375ml bottle of @TheOliveMill’s chipotle olive oil!
All you need to do is one or several or all of the following:
- leave a comment on this post describing your idea re: how you’d use a chipotle flavored olive oil (vegan ideas only please). Leave as many different ideas in multiple comments as you’d like. No limit.
- follow @TheOliveMill on Twitter
- follow me @SnarkyVegan on Twitter
My own ideas so far include:
- spread on breadsticks or focaccia
- drizzle on creamed potato soup
- use for sautéing onions or other veggies
- roasted potato fries
- roasted sweet potato fries
- use as oil for making scrambled tofu
- salad dressing with oil, vinegar, garlic, and mustard
I did try is on focaccia bread tonight by brushing the dough before pushing it out flat then sprinkling it with zaatar spices. It was pretty awesome. Spicy but smooth.
So have at it, this contest ends at noon CST (Chicago Standard Time) on Friday the 28th. I’ll use a random number generator to select the winner from the comments and announce at 5pm that day.
Limited to USA residents in the mainland states. Sorry, that’s the limit of my postage budget, poor schmuck that I am.
UPDATE: WINNER CHOSEN!
Using the Random Number Generator to pick a winner from the 39 entries at noon on Friday the 29th, Tofu Mom is the lucky gal!

Oooh yummy. I was going to mention using it in salads and sauteing veggies. Some pasta recipes that don’t call for tomato sauce have you add olive oil at the end. This could be good that way!

Dangnabbit woman, I haven’t won a single Mofo contest! How’s THAT for a response :)
I put the cheap stuff on my dog’s food.
October 24, 2011 at 10:44 pm
I think I’ll totally spam your page Bwhahahahaha…Let’s see…..
Chipotle Olive oil? Sautee veggies for fajitas.
October 24, 2011 at 10:44 pm
I am going to win this contest or spam your blog trying. Since I will surely post multiple comments I’m going to save the better ones for later and suggest that I might first try frying spam in chipotle olive oil and then bringing spam chipotle olive oil tacos to work to share with everyone at break. Because spam is meant for sharing.
October 24, 2011 at 10:45 pm
Oh, and I’m following you on Twitter. You knew that, right? :D
October 24, 2011 at 10:45 pm
Let’s see. I would use it to brush on tortillas before baking my own tortilla chips…
October 24, 2011 at 10:46 pm
I’d probably just drink it. (OK, maybe not) Maybe on a salad though…
October 24, 2011 at 10:47 pm
And I am following Olive Mills or whoever they are…
October 24, 2011 at 10:47 pm
Hey! I fully support Anonymous but that last comment (re: spam tacos) was obviously from @copedog. I tried to sign in with twitter but I am can hazving broadband issuez.
October 24, 2011 at 10:47 pm
I’d use it to lightly saute some veggies. Thanks for the giveaway :)
October 24, 2011 at 10:48 pm
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd… I’d put it on rice. Olive oil and lime juice on rice is THEE BEST EVER!
October 24, 2011 at 10:49 pm
I’ll be back, it was my idea to spam you first! Another idea? On ice cream.
OK, I’m running out of ideas…
October 24, 2011 at 10:51 pm
Hey! I (finally) managed to log in. For the record this is comment #3 by @copedog, but only recipe idea #2. How about over popcorn? I bet that would be pretty good.

Since I went back and read the rules and now I have to come up with vegan ideas I’ll suggest a caesar salad. If I had to make a caesar salad vegan, it would definitely need some kick, so I’d start out with this chipotle olive oil. And then I would scratch my head real hard trying to figure out what a vegan substitute for raw eggs and anchovies would be.
October 24, 2011 at 11:13 pm
Oh! Yes! Vegan fried rice chipotle style! This could be perfect.
October 24, 2011 at 11:19 pm
Chipotle olive oil? How exciting! I’d use it to make a salad dressing for a Mexican salad.
October 25, 2011 at 5:54 am
I would use it to saute some onions and beans for my beans and rice!
October 25, 2011 at 10:23 am
What wouldn’t I use this for? I’d probably start by sauteeing some peppers and onions in it to make a sweet potato soup.
October 25, 2011 at 10:23 am

Ooh, I’d also mix it into some Goddess dressing with some sea salt & freshly ground pepper, then marinate vegetables in it to grill.
October 25, 2011 at 10:32 am
Breakfast potatoes
October 25, 2011 at 10:35 am
I also want to marinate some eggplant in it for eggplant bacon.
(I’m drooling just thinking about this stuff)
October 25, 2011 at 11:23 am
My first use for chipotle oil would simply be hummus. After that, I’d use it to enhance the flavor of chili, to roast vegetables for enchiladas, and in enchilada sauce. I adore flavored oils :)
October 25, 2011 at 11:27 am
Ooooh, I’d totally put it in polenta fries.
October 25, 2011 at 12:11 pm
I would make sauteed rainbow chard with zucchini and onions over quinoa. The chipotle olive oil would give it a damn good kick!
October 25, 2011 at 12:34 pm
Ooh, I’d probably have to try making chocolate candies with it.
October 25, 2011 at 5:16 pm
Well if I won a bottle I would have to try it with BBQ tofu. I made a vegan BBQ sauce once which consisted mainly of coffee and molasses, with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. It was better than it sounds, but I bet I could top that achievement with this bottle of chipotle olive oil.
October 25, 2011 at 5:33 pm
In order to justify all my earlier comments about spam, which you would assume is not vegan, I looked up a bunch of vegan spam recipes on teh interwebz. I might try one of those recipes out but more likely I would make a veggie burger maybe using soy beans or lentils and chipotle olive oil. On whole grain bread.
October 25, 2011 at 6:04 pm
I’d also definitely be making a salad dressing with it. Maybe with some boysenberries.
October 25, 2011 at 6:07 pm
aaannnnd, I’d be making bread with it.
October 25, 2011 at 7:05 pm
Can I make a vegan jalapeno corn bread? That has to be a thing. Then I’d saute some more spices and peppers in the chipotle olive oil to really amp up the flavor and I’d soak my jalapeno corn bread in spicy olive oil.
October 25, 2011 at 8:49 pm
Hello! It’s so obvious, why has no one mentioned it? How about a marinade for… olives! I could think of so many ways to eat spicy chipotle olives! If you were so inclined, you might even doctor up a martini with a little chipotle olive action. That would probably be pretty intense. I might just snack on them, though, as a little garnish or maybe a mid-afternoon munchie fix. Along the same lines I think it might work well with cashews and I’m even going to cram both of those ideas into one comment.
October 26, 2011 at 11:15 am
Yum! I am thinking it would be nice to use the chipotle oil when caramelizing onions instead of using Earth Balance or regular olive oil The chipotle onions over asparagus sounds really good to me!
October 26, 2011 at 5:21 pm
I think I’d have to find a way to incorporate it into veggie sushi too. (I dreamed of this stuff last night, you know.)
October 27, 2011 at 4:48 pm
How about to saute green beans! I just had some Thai green beans for dinner, which I ordered “just a little spicy,” and the waitress then came over and laughed at me as I had tears in my eyes and was choking on the incredible amount of flavor on that little plate. But it gave me the idea that I could saute some green beans in chipotle olive oil, so maybe if I win this contest my suffering will have been worth something.
October 27, 2011 at 10:59 pm
I’d put it in my misto and use it on popcorn with a bit of sea salt or some nooch.
October 28, 2011 at 8:16 pm
I will use the oil for cooking, popcorn and for all my sandwiches. Definitely worth getting at store also. But do not mind for free :)
